Ethnic Affairs Logo – Colombian Justice Ministry

Designed in 2016 for the Ministry of Justice and Law to represent the Ethnic Affairs Team serving Colombia's diverse indigenous and ethnic communities. The conceptualization process required breaking down each element into its core components, filtering through multiple iterations to ensure genuine inclusion. Rather than relying on a single weaving motif, the design acknowledges Colombia's ethnic diversity—each community with unique characteristics and distinct needs. The logo balances symbolic representation with accessibility, creating a visual identity that honors complexity while remaining functionally clear across applications.

The logo represents the fluidity and dynamism of Colombia's ethnic communities through its organic, flowing form. The abstract symbol at the top of the design suggests movement, just like the threads in a weave, which move and intertwine, the logo embodies the idea that ethnic identities are not static. Colors and shapes were use to highlight and to resemble materials that resonate with earth.
